Equity Bank shock KVF league champions Kenya Prisons as KPA beat GSU
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league men champions Kenya Prisons suffered their second loss of the season on Sunday as Equity Bank won in straight sets to boost their chances on booking a spot in the play-offs.
Prisons had it rough from the first serve in the match played at Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium with Equity Bank closer to perfection in everything they were doing.
Try as they could, the champions were eventually forced to surrender to the bankers in straight sets of 25-19, 27-35 and 25-20.
In the process the bankers improved their chances of playing at the league play-offs while for Prisons this was their second loss in the league after having lost their first match in the third leg action in a five-set thriller against rivals General Service Unit (GSU).
In another match played late on Sunday, GSU sufferred their first loss in the league after going down 3-2 to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
KPA who had lost to Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) by the same sets score on Saturday hit back to win 25-21, 24-26,25-20,22-25 and 15-13.
While Equity was happy to have won against the champions Prisons, KAPU was brought down to earth from the high of beating KPA on Saturday at Nyayo Stadium as they were disarmed by a resurgent Trailblazers side at Kasarani on Sunday.
KAPU had shocked everyone with their show on Saturday which left KPA stunned after a five-set battle.
The win on Saturday however came with a cost for KAPU as their star player Amos Cheruiyot was injured which meant he was unable to help his team as they meekly surrendered to Trailblazers in straight sets on Sunday.
Trailblazers, who are coached by veteran coach Moses Epoloto won the match in straight sets of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-18.

KDF had lost to fellow members of the disciplined forces GSU on Staurday.
All matches of the fourth leg were earlier scheduled to be played at the Nyayo Stadium Basketball Gymnasium and the Volleyball court, but the organisers were forced to move some matches to Kasarani on Sunday as there was basketball action at Nyayo on the same day.
In other matches played at the volleyball court on Sunday, Western Prisons were too strong for Mt Kenya Base Yetu who they locked up in straights sets of 25-14, 34-32 and 25-22.
