Pipeline tackle league champions KCB Bank as GSU battle KPA in Kenya Cup action at Kasarani

The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Kenya Cup tournament returns on Thursday with some mouth-watering ties on the card.

A number of teams will be seeking to hit back after losing in the opening matches of the tournament. Both the men and women matches will be played at Kasarani Gymnasium.

Former KVF women league champions Prisons Kenya will start off the action on Thursday at 9am with a match against Post Bank.

The wardresses are expected to register their second consecutive match in the Kenya Cup action after beating Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the opening leg of the tournament.

The big match of the round though will be played on Sunday when women league champions KCB Bank face archrivals Kenya Pipeline at 1pm.

There is also another mouth-watering tie on the same day as former men league champions General Service Unit (GSU) tackle Kenya Ports Authority.

The match against KCB Bank will be the biggest test so far for Pipeline after the disappointment of losing the CAVB Zone V title to Rwanda’s APR.

The Oilers had a chance to hit back from the disappointment at the Zone V tournament when they played in the fourth leg of the KVF league on March 6 but their opponents failed to turn up at Nyayo Stadium.

They were finally able to get on the pitch on Sunday against Young Spykers who they dismissed in straight sets.

The match on Sunday against KCB Bank though will gauge where Kenya Pipeline are before they fly out to Nigeria in April for the Africa Club Championships.

They will however be buoyed by the fact that they have already beaten KCB this season in the league and coach Geoffrey Omondi will be happy to get a win to ease the pressure he has been under since the loss at the Zone V tournament.

In the men matches, GSU will get a chance for instant revenge against KPA who beat them in the fourth leg of league action in a five-set thriller at Kasarani.

Another match to watch in the men action will be the one pitting reigning league champions Kenya Prisons against Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU).

KAPU are in fine form after beating KPA in the fourth leg of the league action while Prisons will be seeking to hit back after the loss to Equity Bank in the league and also the opening loss in the Kenya Cup action against Kenya Defence Forces.
