Kipyegon wins record fourth 1500m world title
Three-time 1500m Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon showed why she is the world’s best over the distance as she sprinted to victory at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.
The win was not only about the gold for Kipyegon, but it was also her fourth world title something that will take time before another athlete matches it.
But while Kipyegon was the hot favourite to win the gold medal, the surprise of the day was youngster Dorcus Ewoi who beat Olympic silver medallist Jess Hull of Australia to the silver medal.
Another Kenyan Nelly Chepchirchir, who has been outstanding in the season just missed out on the bronze after finishing fourth behind Hull.
Kipyegon is now only the second woman to win four world titles in the same track event after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who has won five 100m titles.
Kipyegon’s winning time was 3:52 while Ewoi did not only win her first major global title but she also clocked a Personal Best time of 3:54.92. Hull clocked 3:55.16.
